HelloKidney is a health-Tech product, on mission to change the trajectory of kidney disease and improve the health and lives of 840 million kidney patients with digital therapeutics, remote health monitoring, predictive data analytics and behavioural data science. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a highly prevalent global health issue affecting 840 million people with serious health consequences and unprecedented healthcare costs. CKD is the third fastest-growing problem in the world, and 20% of healthcare expenditure in the USA is directed to treating patients with kidney disease. CKD is under-recognized, under-treated and under-diagnosed and is projected to be the fifth leading cause of death by 2040. Approximately 110 million Indians (10-12% prevalence) live with CKD, and 9 out of 10 are unaware of their disease. Diabetes and hypertension contribute to 70% of kidney failures. 40% of diabetes and 20% of hypertensive patients eventually develop kidney failure. Seventeen million people died of kidney failure in 2019. CKD is a silent disease and disease multiplier and often co-exists with other co-morbid illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Patients with CKD progress to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), which requires costly invasive procedures like dialysis, AV Fistulas and kidney transplantation with inferior outcomes and high morbidity or die early with heart-related problems. Early detection, diagnosis and treatment of CKD prevent and arrest disease progression and avoids dialysis or kidney transplantation. There are several unmet needs in kidney care. Adequate screening for kidney disease, detection and early diagnosis facilitates prompt, accessible and affordable treatment, preventing costly dialysis or transplant and premature death. 7-10 million people need kidney failure treatment annually, yet only 2.5 million receive it. Patient survival in publicly funded HD programmes is just about 1.5 years, far less than the standards. About 188 million people experience catastrophic healthcare expenditures annually due to CKD across LMICs, the greatest of any disease group. India has a massive shortage of Nephrology workforce, with under 2000 Nephrologists taking care of millions of kidney patients, and 90% of people do not have access to care from renal professionals. HelloKidney solves many barriers, making kidney care integrated, accessible and affordable by providing personalized, proactive treatment to kidney patients with telehealth, digital therapeutics, remote health monitoring with wearables, predictive data analytics, renal nutrition and behavioural data science. We are working on CKD modelling with predictive data analytics and changing kidney disease trajectories, preventing them from reaching ESRD and causing premature death. HelloKidney is a scalable, innovative product that can be expanded to South East Asia and Europe after clinical validation and regulatory clearance. We aim to start stand-alone smart dialysis centers and kidney transplant institutes in the next 3-5 years to help provide kidney care to under-served communities. The need for kidney replacement burden has continued to rise in Asia and requires technology-enabled personalized dialysis support to improve outcomes. HelloKidney's data-driven personalized dialysis support enhances the quality of life and improves mortality by minimizing frequent hospitalizations.
