Maharashtra on the map

Open the full map

The startups in Maharashtra we can both place and evidence, about 5,321 of them. Bubbles are groups; zoom in and they separate into companies, coloured by who is behind each one. A number always zooms in, a single dot opens the company.

"About", because the map counts by coordinate and that figure counts by company. A coordinate belongs to whichever district contributes most of the companies sitting on it, so a handful registered just over a state line are drawn on the neighbour's side of it. The map's own counter, under the filter button, always says exactly what is on screen.

What this state's numbers show

Maharashtra holds 16.4% of the national register, the largest share of any state. Mumbai takes 45.7% of it and Pune another 26.5%, so 72.3% of the state sits in two districts: a two-centre shape rather than the single-metro pattern Karnataka and Telangana show. Its Seed Fund allocation, Rs 90.0 crore across 21 incubators, is the largest in the scheme, and Rs 56.2 crore of it has been disbursed. Recognition runs at 53.8% against 51.2% nationally. None of that tells you how many of these 74,540 companies are trading.

What Maharashtra builds

The category each company chose for itself from the government's list when it registered. Self-selected, never audited.

We checked our count against the government's

The Startup India API returns facet counts computed over the entire register on every search response. That is an independent number we did not produce, so it is a real check on our own sweep rather than a restatement of it.

Our count for Maharashtra against the Startup India census facet, with the difference
Our count 74,540
Government census 77,910
Difference -3,370 (-4.3%)

A difference is expected and is not an error in either number. Ours counts resolved companies after merging duplicate profiles; the government's counts profiles. We also exclude startups we may not republish.

Companies in Maharashtra

We do not list every company. One appears here only where the register holds more than a name for it: a description the company wrote about itself, and either a CIN or a website. 39,755 of the 74,540 Maharashtra registrations clear that bar. These are the 60 we hold the most for, best-evidenced first. Search reaches the rest.

It is a test of whether there is anything to read, not of whether the company is trading. Registration is not an operating signal. A large share of registered startups are dormant, and we have no way to tell you which. How we counted.

What the six marks mean

  • DPIIT recognised
  • CIN on file
  • Website
  • Description
  • Logo
  • Funding signal

A filled mark is a field we hold for that company. A hollow one is a field we do not. It is a summary of what the register gave us, not a rating: none of it says whether the company is trading.

About this data

Indian Startup Map is an independent directory built from the Government of India's Startup India register and other public sources, snapshot 2026-08. We do not run the register, we do not own or represent any company on it, and nothing here is an endorsement of one. Company names and logos belong to their owners. Every source is listed.

A dot on the map may be wrong, and most of them are not an address. Most startups sit at the centre of their district, which is a label position and not a place. Where we do hold something finer it is a geocode of a registered office, which is frequently a founder's home rather than a place of business, so we round it and never publish the address line.

Registration is not an operating signal. A large share of registered startups are dormant, and we have no way to tell you which. Figures come from our own count of that snapshot and will differ from the government's own census, which counts differently.
