Sahrdaya TBII Hub

Incubator Thrissur, Kerala

In their own words

Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology stands as a bastion of innovation and entrepreneurship with its well-established Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Center (IEDC). As the designated cluster coordinating institute for innovation and entrepreneurship by APJ Abdul Kalam Technology University, Sahrdaya has forged collaborations with esteemed agencies, including Kerala Startup Mission, KSCSTE, KSIDC, KDISC, and PM YUVA of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. The IEDC at Sahrdaya has been recognized for its exemplary performance, receiving the Exemplary Performance Award from Kerala Startup Mission in 2016, and the Entrepreneurship Enabler Award in 2018 from the Government of Kerala. Within this dynamic environment, the Sahrdaya Technology Business Incubator and Innovation Hub, affectionately known as the Sahrdaya TBII Hub, has emerged. This hub serves as a nurturing ground for numerous startups, particularly those specializing in biotechnology and healthcare technologies. Notably, Zaara Biotech, an incubated startup founded by a B.Tech Biotechnology student, attracted a significant investment of over 20 million US dollars. Another success story is Devaditek Innovations, which developed LUMOS, a multipurpose decontamination device that effectively sanitizes items such as N95 masks and vegetables, contributing to the fight against COVID-19. This startup, in collaboration with the Collegiate Congress under the United Nations MasterPlan initiative, has extended its impact overseas to regions severely affected by the pandemic. Farmers Fresh Zone, an agri-tech startup incubated at Sahrdaya, secured funding of 3.5 crore led by IAN Fund in September 2020. This startup, founded by an alumnus of Sahrdaya's CSE department, created a platform connecting farmers directly with consumers, addressing the crucial need for an efficient marketplace for agricultural produce. The success of these startups underscores the effectiveness of the nurturing environment provided by Sahrdaya TBII Hub. In 2023, Sahrdaya initiated a groundbreaking scheme titled the Research Innovation Programme for Women Startups in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. In collaboration with Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), this scheme aims to empower eligible women startups with research grants of up to Rs 5 lakh for each startup in the initial phase. The program also offers essential support, including laboratory access, mentoring, and handholding, to convert research outcomes into revolutionary products or technologies. Seven women researchers have been selected in the initial phase, reflecting the commitment to gender-inclusive innovation and entrepreneurship. Sahrdaya College's endeavors in innovation and entrepreneurship have garnered recognition throughout its existence. The institution's proactive initiatives, vibrant ecosystem, and success stories reflect its dedication to advancing technology, fostering entrepreneurship, and contributing to the overall economic development of the region and the country.
