The Agricultural and Food Engineering (AgFE) Department of the IIT Kharagpur - the only department of its kind in the country's IIT system is hosting the NABARD-funded Agri Business Incubation Foundation IIT Khargapur (ABIF IIT Khargapur) for promotion of agriculture, rural development and allied sector. The ABIF IIT Khargapur is a Section-8 company incorporated under the Companies act 2013 within IIT Kharagpur. The mandate of the Foundation is to incubate novel and innovative business ideas in agriculture, rural development and allied domain for creating entrepreneurs. The Foundation demonstrates and transfers suitable low-cost technologies for sustainable development of agricultural and rural communities. It is expected that the agriculture will get a boost through action-oriented research including climate change impact assessment and adaptation, value addition, market-linkage and risk management. The Foundation offers incubation support to the important agricultural and rural development domains, namely, Farm Mechanization, AI/Machine Learning/IOT in Agriculture, Agricultural Bio-technology, Precision Farming, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Food Processing and Value Addition, Food Packaging and Storage, Renewable Energy, Agri Supply Chain Management, Waste to Wealth, Animal Husbandry, Apiary, Fisheries etc. The Foundation strives to promote technical and management excellence for incubating novel and innovative ideas in the field of agriculture and rural development.
