Ranked by what share of the district's own registrations this industry takes, not by raw count, so this is not simply a list of the largest cities. Nationally the figure is 1.9%. Districts with fewer than 250 companies are excluded, because a small base makes a share meaningless.

Industry is chosen by the company from the government's own list when it registers. It is self-selected, not audited, and a company may pick more than one. The census figure is what the government's own search returns for this category over its whole population of 4,67,663 startups; ours is 8,763 out of 4,53,192. The two are counted over different populations, so the difference is the size of that gap and not an error bar.
About this data
Indian Startup Map is an independent directory built from the Government of India's Startup India register and other public sources, snapshot 2026-08. We do not run the register, we do not own or represent any company on it, and nothing here is an endorsement of one. Company names and logos belong to their owners. Every source is listed.
A dot on the map may be wrong, and most of them are not an address. Most startups sit at the centre of their district, which is a label position and not a place. Where we do hold something finer it is a geocode of a registered office, which is frequently a founder's home rather than a place of business, so we round it and never publish the address line.
Registration is not an operating signal. A large share of registered startups are dormant, and we have no way to tell you which. Figures come from our own count of that snapshot and will differ from the government's own census, which counts differently.
