Sporting Mile Technologies Private Limited Sporting Mile Technologies is a private limited company setup to support and boost the participation of common people in sports in India with a special focus on Badminton. Unofficial estimates put around 150 million people playing badminton in India - the 2nd most played sport in the country after cricket. Many venues and facilities have opened up in the last decade to cater to the sport. However, access to venues, or players to play along with, has been very limited due to lack of technological platforms with which players can find a partner or venue to engage in the game. Sporting Mile aims to bridge this gap and encourage the sport as a whole, and fitness in general within the country. The Popularity of Badminton According to Britannica, badminton has ancient roots in India and closely resembles the battledore and shuttlecock games that were practised in the Indian city of Poonah (then, Pune now) during the 1860s. Badminton is said to possess one of the highest participation rates of any other sport in the world. The sport is especially popular in Asian countries, particularly India. The sport has only grown in popularity ever since its inception years ago. Clubs, badminton halls, and outdoor courts are all over the country today catering to the needs and requirements of badminton enthusiasts from all walks of life. Sporting Mile’s intent is to publish an app that will heavily cover the sport to ensure that a large section of the population plays badminton almost regularly and takes to active fitness. Badminton is only expected to grow with regards to its popularity in the years to come with more people realising its inclusivity and health benefits. Health benefits of the sport Most people prefer badminton for a variety of reasons. The most prominent of which are listed below: ● It is a fun & flexible sport that helps people socialise with friends and family. ● It is good for both mental and physical wellbeing.
