India lags in defence production compared to other leading nations. There is a need to bridge the existing gap between academia and the defence. Retired Armed Force veterans can play a significant role in coaching the academia and scaling up the startup ecosystem to meet the future requirements of the Indian Armed Forces. DRaS Innovation is a unique 'Defence Edutech' initiative in the form of a trust formed by the Retired Armed Force Veterans to educate, upskill and motivate the undergraduate (UG) students in Indian universities/ academia to take up Emerging Defence Technologies as their carrier. The endeavour will create interest in UG students to take up further studies in defence technology domains and make them venture into associated startups. This would facilitate more startups emerging in the security and defence sector. DRaS Innovations is focused on academia to promote defence innovations and develop products and services specific to defence, aerospace and maritime by exploiting emerging sustainable green technologies with a minimum carbon footprint. Pivoting on training, certification and career development in front end defence technologies aid the next generation to build a self-reliant nation and Armed Forces. DRaS Innovations also promote the research culture among the younger generations. DRaS Innovations has already concluded 'MoU on academic collaboration' with three tech universities and has started running courses on 'Emerging Defence Technologies' for B Tech Students. We intend to partner with more universities in the country by bringing in experienced defence veterans as tutors who carry a huge amount of wisdom and are willing to share their experiences with the next generation.
