Diatom is an Indian deep-tech startup founded by Ajay Narayan (PhD, Thin Film Electronics, IIT Bombay) and Bhuvanesh Kumar (MTech, Materials Science, IIT Bombay), proposed to be incubated at SINE, IIT Bombay. We're developing next generation thermal processing tools for semiconductor manufacturing specifically thermal processing equipment like cure ovens, RTP systems, diffusion furnaces, reflow tools, and oxidation systems.The core innovation is a patented graphitised carbon-based printed heater technology invented by Ajay Narayan during his doctoral research. Unlike conventional nichrome wire, quartz rod, or ceramic heaters, which are bulky, slow, and geometrically rigid. NanoTherm's printed heater is ultra-thin, conformal, highly responsive, and operates up to >3000°C.Lead product: The VIBCO (Vertical Inert Batch Cure Oven) — a domestically designed semiconductor cure oven targeting the gap left by imported US/European tools costing USD 150K–40M per unit. India has zero domestic semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing. Under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), this is a critical gap. NanoTherm aims to fill it with Made-in-India tools at a fraction of import costs.Stage: Early prototyping / pre-revenue, seeking co-innovation partnerships and grant funding to build the Phase 1 VIBCO prototype.
