Kala Namak Rice is one of the finest quality scented rice in India. It has been cultivated in India since 600 BC. It’s very popular in the Himalayan Tarai of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as the scented black pearl of Uttar Pradesh. The Asian-Agri Foundation quotes the works of Chinese traveler Fa Hien who said that Lord Buddha visited Kapilvastu after attaining the knowledge, the villagers asked him for “Prasad(gift)”.He gave them grains He asked them to sow it in marshy land, it is due to this reason this rice is also called as “Buddha’s Gift”. It was also featured in the book 'Speciality rices of the world' by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. About Us BHARTIYA PRAKRITIK KALANAMAK RICE PRODUCER COMPANY LIMITED is established in 2022. It is a collective of small and marginal paddy farmers in terai region (foothills of Himalayas) of Uttar Pradesh, which comprised districts Siddharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Basti, Gonda, and Gorakhpur. Kalanamak Rice has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag in 2012 by the Government of India and a geographical area has been defined where the Kalanamak rice can be produced. Kalanamak rice grown in this defined area can only be labeled as Kalanamak Rice. our Member organization has been working with farmers from last two decades. After working these years, Our member realized that small and marginal farmers have limited capacity to market their agri product and negotiate in the market. It took long for farmers to realize that they can come together and register a collective of farmers and become stakeholder. Thus, BHARTIYA PRAKRITIK KALANAMAK RICE PRODUCER COMPANY LIMITED came into existence. With the effective management, scale and technology, a farmer collective can become heart of value chain. With Bodhisattva Agro Farmer Producer Company, we are making effort to reach consumer directly.
