Base'P is developing sustainable plant based meat products with proteins from pulses using high moisture extrusion technology to help environment conscious consumers wishing to have high protein, low fat, meaty textured and flavored soy free foods, without compromising the taste and the quality aspects. With increasing protein awareness, the global demand for protein is growing at an unbelievable rate that demand exceeds supply. Animal protein is a good source but the animal industry is responsible for increased ghg emissions, water pollution, eutrophication and uses 75% of total agricultural land to give just 18% of calories and 37% of global protein supply. Overconsumption of meat increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and other non-communicable diseases. Plant protein on the other hand, has slower digestion rate and it is not easily absorbed like the animal protein because of its complex structure. Therefore, people are finding it difficult to source a sustainable, reliable yet tasty protein alternative that can be a part of their daily diet without impacting the environment. To solve these problems, base’p came up with the solution of developing texturised vegetable protein or plant based meat using high moisture extrusion technology and shear cell technology. By fermenting the plant protein we are modifying its properties thereby making it more easily digestible and absorbable like the conventional meat. We will be the first company in India to use fermented pulse protein for commercial production of plant based meat and that’s gonna be our usp. Our products are rich in protein, fibre, has zero cholesterol, low fat, low calories and it meets 7 sustainable development goals as well. By incorporating customers insights in each stage of product development, we tried to achieve product market fit right from day 1 and we have developed our prototype successfully. Coming to the business part, The market for plant based products are increasing at a rate of 8% each year and our product is a good fit. Our initial target market is 2.4 million people with the target market value of 92 crores inr approximately. We are focusing on B2B model by offering our products to educational institutions, it firms, catering service providers, gyms and hotels and B2G by looking for government contracts like protein breakfast scheme etc and expand it to b2c through ecommerce and retail outlets. Base’P foods insists on responsible consumption and production for kind and healthy future.
