In their own words
Rural Grist is solving the growing problem of disappearing traditional water-powered flour mills (Gharats) and the loss of healthy, locally milled flour in rural India. With the expansion of industrial roller mills, many communities have become dependent on highly processed flour that often loses important nutrients, taste, and freshness. At the same time, centuries-old Gharats have been abandoned due to modernization, leading to the loss of sustainable livelihoods, traditional knowledge, and valuable cultural heritage. Rural Grist revives these eco-friendly water-powered mills by combining traditional stone-grinding methods with modern quality standards and market access. This initiative provides consumers with fresh, nutritious, chemical-free flour while creating income opportunities for rural families. It also supports local farmers by encouraging local grain processing, reduces dependence on electricity and fossil fuels through renewable water energy, preserves indigenous technology, promotes environmentally sustainable food systems, and strengthens rural economies by creating a resilient, community-driven value chain rooted in Punjab’s heritage.

What we do not know
- no funding signal of any kind
We have no liveness signal for any company on this site: no filings feed, no revenue, no check that the website still resolves. A startup existing here means a startup exists, not that a business is trading.

If something is wrong, the authoritative place to correct it is the Startup India portal itself, and we will pick the correction up on the next monthly snapshot.
